DELTA FAQs:

1. “I have been teaching for over 5 years but don’t have CELTA. Should I do the DELTA or the CELTA?”

Many people have come to us with this dilemma and most have opted for CELTA, after careful consideration. A common “fear” is that the CELTA will be “too easy” for people with a lot of previous teaching experience. This is never the case, as The CELTA offers very sound and practical teaching and planning skills which reflect current best practice. Indeed, many experienced CELTA candidates find they have some unlearning to go through before they can really benefit from what CELTA has to offer. If you’re looking to improve your teaching skills and / or feel that you need a recognised qualification, consider taking the CELTA first. You won’t regret it. We can put you in touch with several people who have taken the CELTA route initially.

2. What are the requirements for doing the DELTA?

In order to get full benefit from what the DELTA offers, candidates will typically be CELTA qualified and have taught full-time for at least 2 years at a range of levels in a variety of contexts. It is assumed that you are fully familiar with current best practice principles and skills in planning and teaching as covered on a CELTA course. If you don’t have the CELTA but have worked in contexts where there was a quality in-service training scheme including regular observations and feedback, then we may advise you to do the DELTA. In these cases, we would need to observe one of your lessons before accepting your application.
