CELTA Course content
A CELTA Course involves a minimum of 120 contact hours with tutors, broken down into:
- Practical Seminars on Methodology, Language Awareness, etc
- Supervised Teaching Practice
- Lesson Preparation and Planning
- Feedback on Teaching Practice
- Observation of Experienced Teachers
There are 5 core components:
- Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism
In addition, we recommend 50 to 80 hours’ study prior to and during the course for researching and writing assignments and for lesson planning, i.e. around 10 hours before the course and about 2 hours per course day thereafter. It is of course entirely up to you how long you spend over and above the 120 hours, but do bear in mind that it won’t be enough to simply “show up” to the lessons!
